In addition to, that, WRRC is once again taking part in OAITH’s Wrapped in Courage campaign. This campaign is in it’s seventh year – and encourages everyone to buy and wear a purple scarf in solidarity with those who have experienced domestic violence.
Domestic violence is a prevalent issue in Canada and across the world. About 1 in 4 women experience domestic violence at some point in their life. In Ontario, around 30 women per year are killed by their intimate partner.
While these numbers may seem shocking, WRRC witnesses the aftermath of trauma that domestic violence leaves in its wake. Many women who come to us seeking support leave with nothing. No financial resources, no support system, no where to live. Every year WRRC supports over 200 women and families in Middlesex County and beyond. We could not continue this service without the support of our community, so thank you.
This month, we ask that you take a moment to reflect on the women in your life who have been effected by domestic violence. Take the time to share a post, check in on someone in your life, send a text, or simply educate yourself further on this issue.
As always, if you are in need of support, you can call our 24/7 crisis line.
And, if you are looking for other ways to support WRRC, consider purchasing a scarf, volunteering, or making a donation. Every little bit helps. Our hope, as always, is that there comes a time where we won’t need a month dedicated to ending Violence Against Women.
